Funeral

by
Jonathan Montgomery

yeah, I want a lot of people there who are really upset about it

they’ll recount old stories about me with tears and maybe a little laughter

someone will say I was “the greatest” at something

someone will say I was a “true” something, not asshole

they’ll play what they think my favorite song was

the mass media will be interested in it

I will be remembered as greater than I was, I will become more of an icon, a myth

my book sales will spike

people who I never knew will say I touched their hearts

my enemies will regret they were ever my enemies

I will feel like life was totally worth the trouble, all the worrying paid off

but I won’t get to see any of it

the eyes won’t work on my dead body

I don’t know why I want it to be so great
I won’t get to experience any of it

I should really just
relax

I like this! A very youthful view. Tom Sawyer. Kudos!
